Extreme Couponing....helpful or harmful??

Okay, I confess....I haven't watched even a single episode of that crazy new show on TLC...you know the one....Extreme Couponing!  I see no reason to watch a show that basically teaches people how to coupon the wrong way.  I also don't need 40 containers of mustard, 80 cartons of yogurt, 67 rolls of toilet paper and so on and so on.  But, that is just my humble little opinion.

With that in mind, I was very interested in this article that I found on Yahoo.com called How to get the most from coupons.  The article is part of a series related to being Financially Fit that is authored by Farnoosh Torabi. Check out more about her at http://www.farnoosh.tv/

Highlights of the article include new coupon procedures (because of Extreme Couponing) being implemented at both Rite Aid and Target, and Coupon Dos and Don'ts.  There is also a link to the article, "Is Extreme Couponing Hurting Self Esteem?" by Leah Ingram on her blog Suddenly Frugal.

All in all, I found both the Yahoo article and Leah Ingram's article to be equally fascinating and very well written.  Read them and tell me your thoughts!

  1. Good comparisons in that article! I sometimes feel like, Well, I saved 50 cents. I guess I'll buy that candy bar now...
    I really do suck at saving money! Just ask my husband!

  2. I guess whether or not you need 67 rolls of TP depends on if you are full of __________ LOL Sorry I couldn't resist!

  3. I think those people have some serious problems personally. Now if they took all of that free food and donated it to a local food bank that would be one thing. But to hoard hundreds of bottles of ketchup is just absurd.

  4. McVal....I know what you mean...sometimes I'll be like, "Ooooohh...lookey...I save $2.50! Let's go get some ice cream!" Totally defeats the purpose! *sigh* ;}

    Hey there, Pastor Duke! You are just too funny this morning, aren't you! LOL :)

    Pricilla...that is really interesting that you mentioned about them having serious problems. I read an article that talked about Extreme Couponers actually having hoarding tendencies and other types of personality issues. It was very interesting!!!!

  6. Lisa, I know...I really liked that I could shop at Target and stack the coupons. It's too expensive for me to shop there if I can't do that!! :{

  7. Great article. I watched EC once & thought storerooms were too odd. I only use coupons on my usual brands & the coupons are getting harder to find. I could be wrong but I think the stores have jacked up the prices to compensate for the coupons.(?)or gas (?)& now they give out cats- either way it's getting harder to save a buck. I only have 40 rolls of T.P. stocked which will probably be gone in 2 weeks. LOL. Love ya Pastor Duke! Thanks Alisa for the food for thought.

  8. It does seem like a lot doesn't it. I would like to have at least 10 or 12 of each item. I just can't seem to match the sale with my coupons lately.
